Chattisgarh was long part of the state of Madhya Pradesh despite intrinsic differences in culture, language and ethnicity. Chattisgarh is the culmination of the hopes and desires of an indigenous people marginalized, neglected and overlooked only because they dwell in the back of beyond, hidden away deep in the heartland of Central India. The need to preserve their distinctive culture, to be masters of their political destiny, to control the management of the region’s abundant natural resources and to get a rightful share of the development pie were the imperatives that led to the demand for autonomy. Undulating hills, mighty rivers, acres of dark forests, uncomplicated tribes people and relatively unexplored territory add up to make Chattisgarh a travel destination waiting to be discovered.
Chattisgarh has tropical type of climate - humid and sub-humid. Summer months between April and June tend to be very hot with temperatures between 24°- 41°C; May is the warmest of the summer months. Winter temperatures range between cool to cold with warm, sunny days and cold nights. January and February are the coldest time of the year with temperatures falling to 10°C. The monsoon season falls between June and September when average rainfall is upward of 60 inches. The rains serve a critical role, as the region’s agricultural production is completely dependent on these seasonal rains.
